OJOS INDIGENAS

The “Ojos Indígenas” Ecological Reserve is a 1,500-acre private reserve owned and maintained by the Grupo Puntacana Foundation. The Reserve has 13 freshwater eyes (lagoons), formed by outcrops of an underground river named Yauya and provides habitat for an abundance of reptiles, birds, insects, and other local fauna and flora.

Immerse yourself in nature and learn about our renowned ecological projects on a guided tour featuring our efforts to protect and restore the Dominican Republic's unique natural resources. The tour includes detailed explanations of our beekeeping project and our efforts to conserve the endemic Ridgway's Hawks and Rhinoceros Iguana.

Guests will visit the YAUYA store and last but not least, the renowned Indigenous Eyes Ecological Reserve for a dip in the Inriri lagoon.

The tour begins with a welcome introduction highlighting our efforts to protect and restore the Dominican Republic's unique natural resources,after this, the guide will take you to four different stations, where he will be giving you a brief explanation of what each project is about and you can learn a little more about the efforts being made to protect these animals in danger of extinction. Finally, the guide will guide you towards to the Indigenous Eyes Ecological Reserve to enjoy the freshwater of the Inrir lagoon.

The tour lasts around 2 hours.
