Puntacana Resort & Club sponsors PGA Rookie of the Year

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic Puntacana Resort & Club announced on August their sponsorship of Argentinian Golfer, Emiliano Grillo. Grillo was awarded the title of PGA Rookie of the Year for 2016, during the Safeway Open PGA Tournament in Napa Valley, October 12th -16th.

Hiram Silfa, Golf Director at Puntacana Resort & Club explained that "the objective of the sponsorship is to position our golf courses, La Cana and Corales, as the premier golf destination in the Caribbean, suitable to host any international golf event ".

As part of the agreement, Emiliano Grillo will serve as a brand ambassador for Puntacana Resort & Club, wearing the resort’s logo and using the Corales Golf Course to practice and prepare for the PGA Tour from 2016 to 2017. During his visits to the Dominican Republic, Grillo will also host clinics for the public at Corales Golf Course at Puntacana Resort & Club.

Manuel Sajour, Executive Director of Marketing, adds that this alliance with the Argentinian golfer is part of the Puntacana Resort & Club’s strategy to promote golf in the Dominican Republic at an international level. Another example of this strategy being executed is the PGA Web.com Tour held at Corales Golf Course each year, the only one of its kind in the Dominican Republic and the first ever played in the Caribbean.

At an early age, Emiliano Grillo (now 24), won fourth place at the US Junior Amateur 2008 and won the Byron Nelson International Junior Golf Award 2009. In 2011 he achieved notoriety through the European Tour through qualifying tournaments and finished in the top 10 in his first event, the African Open in 2012. Currently, Grillo is positioned as one of the top 25 best players worldwide for the PGA and is the first player to win in his first season as an official member of the PGA Tour since 2013.
