For its commitment to socially responsible tourism the resort has developed through the Grupo Puntacana Foundation, Puntacana Resort has received the Travel + Leisure Global Vision Award, National Geographic Traveler and HSMAI Adrian Award, “Premio Ecológico a la Siembra de Agua”, and the Conde Nast Traveler World Savers Award for Education Programs, just to mention some of them.
Tortuga Bay, the luxury hotel designed by Oscar de la Renta at Puntacana Resort, has been recognized for providing a premier guest experience from leading organizations and readers alike. The hotel has been honored with the Leading Hotels of the World Commitment to Quality Award, AAA Five Diamond Award, Conde Nast Traveler Reader’s Choice Gold List, U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hotel in the Caribbean, and TripAdvisor’s Travelers Choice Awards for Top 25 Hotels for Service in the Caribbean, Top 25 Hotels in the Caribbean, Top 25 Luxury Hotels in the Caribbean, and Top 25 Relaxation & Spa Hotels in the Caribbean.
The resort’s championship golf courses, La Cana designed by P.B. Dye and Corales designed by Tom Fazio, have also made Puntacana Resort the Caribbean’s premier golf and beach destination. Distinctions include Golf Resort of the Year by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators and Celebrated Living’s Platinum List for top 20 international golf courses, naming both Corales and La Cana to the list. Corales golf course has also been named to Golf Week’s Best Courses of the Caribbean and Mexico.
Frank Rainieri, President and CEO of Grupo Puntacana, the owner and operator of Puntacana Resort which he co-founded with the late Ted Kheel in 1969, has been acknowledged on a personal level for the inspiration, leadership and enthusiasm for sustainable development, economic growth, and education in the community that he and his family have provided. Such recognitions include the Presidential Citation award presented to him by Ronald Regan in 1985, the Hotelier of the Year award by the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA) in 1998, CHTA Bill Bissell Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010, and the 2010 Five Star Diamond Personal Achievement Award from The American Academy of Hospitality Sciences.
